Made it to summer

*tap* *tap*

Is this thing on?

Listen, I’m sorry. I’m still here, still alive.

But there was a while where I wasn’t sure if I was going to be…

Ok, so I’m overreacting. I’m home now, living with my rents. I had last week off, and start my exciting internship with Sonic Foundry tommorrow.

Seriously though, finals was really horrible this year. Not so much for the finals even.

Actually, I didn’t even make it to three of my finals. Wot a mess. I was horribly, horribly sick. So sick my mother came and bought me food and medicine and took care of me. Before she came, however, I slept for basically 2.5 days. In those days I spent no more than about 30 min total sitting up on my computer. I was that sick.

I actually slept through one final, and while I worked as hard as I could, with mothers help, to get work done on my Comm Theory paper, it just didn’t get done. I got as far as an extended outline. I called one prof and bowed out of a short final, and got all dressed up for a presentation on the paper that I hadn’t finished yet.

When I got there the classroom was dark and empty. I walked as fast as I could through the spritzing rain to see if the final was in the athletic center, or somewhere where everyone was supposed to be. A tearful and controlled call to my professor showed that I had missed the final, that I was two hours late.

I took the elevator up to her floor and handed her the outline of my paper, and went to lab to work on more assignments for frank’s class. Coughing and wheezing I was there until they kicked me out. I got up the next day and finished all the photoshop and illustrator things just in time to hand in to him.

Basically, I finished everything except the big paper. It looks like I am getting an Incomplete to finish it. I’d be finished now, except my computer is horribly horribly sick now. Apparently a couple viruses hit it, and my drive K: the one with all important documents and programs and my paper are on it.

Vincent(my computer) is at the shop this weekend, hopefully I can get access to drive K: again. It has all my free lance stuff, all my ‘working on it’ designs, important documents that I scanned in, and everything I did for everyone else.

This last week hasn’t been all bad though, I’ve been unpacking, learning about living in my ‘rents house again. Spending a lot of time with Boy! Mostly working my way through Parasite Eve on his playstation. And a few movies…

Saw The Mummy(Oded is soo fine >giggle< ) with Boy and my rents,

Saw EdTV with Boy and Chris and Jenni, and of course caught StarWars:Phantom Menace on thursday.

Also, got my car washed, oil changed, hair cut, and did some shopping.

I have some really old clothes still hanging around, I mean really old, some of them from the middle of high school still. They are all old and worn now, so I’m weeding those kind of things out of my wardrobe.

I’m looking to join Aikido here in Madison, as well as exercising my way to a bodacious body.

I’m really excited and nervous about my internship. I had a dream about work, something about me not wearing the right clothes, being too dressed up or something.

Anyway, if you’ve had the patience to read all the way through this, I’d love to hear from you. Some of you are from thailand, and russia, and all over. Please, feel free to drop me a line and tell me what you’ve been up to this week too!

Oh, and please, until I get my computer back and hooked up to the net

email me at

I’ll type again after work to give you all the 411 on my new job, ok?!

Close to the end

May8

11:42pm

So, it’s the end of the year, My last day of actual classes was last thursday.
I am plodding along to finish up the last few things for classes.

I still have a couple illustrator and Photoshop assignments, which are, regrettably late. (I’ll finish them before the final time on wednesday…)

The big thing is this Communication Theory Paper I have to do. By tuesday, no ifs. No past deadlines, no incompletes on that baby.

Which is fine, I’ve been working very hard not to finish semesters with incompletes.
That happened three semesters in a row (All due to my Honors classes).
This semester I just really want to get everything in. Some Assignments,I don’t even care if they are late, just need to finish things. That reminds me I have a couple class outlines still to do for speech.

Last week I had two finals and my last big speech. All of which went fairly well.

All that leaves me with are some take home finals, and the projects I mentioned earlier. It didn’t feel like the last week of school. It doesn’t feel liek all of this will be over by the end of this week. And I’m certainly coming to grips with the fact that this is my last semester in the dorms. I’ve done pretty wellfor myself here, though I think I oculd have put more into the whole

communal living thing.

It looks like our system admin on campus is gonna buy a house, and me and Ace and Jess are gonna be roomates for my final year, which should be a lot of fun. Good People, 3 webcams, and a whole lot of Anime. We looked at a lot of neat houses, I’m just hoping for one with a decent bedroom for me,
I mean Right now I live in a dorm room… I really don’t want something smaller to live in for a year. But I trust him to make the right decision.

So, today Jess and Ace and I took down my lofts. My room is in complete array, more so because I don’t have the end parts of the beds so I can bunk them.(You know the wood parts that cap the frame–uh bedposts). I have two mattresses
sitting on top of each other in the middle of my room that I’ll sleep on tonight. Jess and Ace were perfect Angels to help. The brought their Black and white furby over and tried unsuccessfully to get it to talk with my white furby. Every time we pounded on the lofts the furbies would scream in unison “WHOOOAH, BIG NOOISE”, heh.

It never fails to amaze me that we are required to take down lofts before finals week begins. I don’t see why they can’t let us do this whole
thing at the end of the week. Not only Is my room in such a mess I have no clue if I’ll be able to find everything. But the sense of home-ness, the layout of where everything was for two semesters has been disrupted. Any semblence of organization, or mental organization has dissapeared. It’s tramatic, really, heh.

It’s late, and I’m waiting for Boy to call me back, he had people over when I called.

So, yeah, finals is coming up and believ it or not, I think I’m getting really sick. I woke this morning congested, but more uncomfortable than anything, nose sniffles, bathroom dashes, blah. Yet another thing to distract me from finals.

I just want this all to be done, I want to be at Sonic Foundry. But I also, just don’t want to leave. I’ve been here in platteville for 4 semesters plus summer straight, it’ll be strange to live with my ‘rents for the summer.
However, it should be nice too. Heidi and Wendy will both be in madison, as well as Boy, and we should all be able to have some great adventures too.

I plan on doing a few things with my seventeen year old brother, and working

on some freelance stuff that has been on the backburner to school.(sorry mom)

Speaking of Mom, Tommorrows Mother’s Day, and I have this plant to give Mom, but

there is no way I can get away tommorrow to do it. It’s a lovely little potted what-not.

Really, I have no clue what it is, It was something someone was selling on campus, and it came

with a cute little pot, some soil and a couple seeds. So I’ve been watering the whole mess,

and sure enough the little wonder popped outta the soil. I still don’t know what it is, but it’s green.

Heh. It’s actually fun to watch and wonder, perhaps I’ll do grow some plants over summer.

It’s strange to think that next week this time, I should be home, and all my stuff should be home,

and I’ll be sitting in another room of dissarray, but closer to my internship, and family and Boy.

Sweet Dreams,

Stacie…

Full Weekends

May3

Ay, it’s been almost two weeks since I last updated Questing here, I’ve had my fingers full of Quixotica in that time. Close to finalization
on the Digital Muses redesign.

I updated Linkage last week, so there are a few more places you should check out! Though in doing so I noticed that I had been slacking in actually finding new places for every entry.

What can I say, I get lazy. Heh.

I also spent a great deal of work on the web for my applied Comm Course last week. I was the ‘Techical Director’ (heh) for a Public Relations Web Site about our major. It wasn’t a spectacular design or anything, but a good deal of work, and informative too.

Rigth now I’m skipping my L&M class, (I needed to have some clothes, and the dryers take forever,) and getting organized for this week. Sheesh, finals are next week!

EEEK!

I had two most excellent weekends in a row, neither of which have I taken the time to
tell you about. Last Friday night I went to Galena with Tony and Lou, and had an awesome time exploring main street there, which has all these awesome overpriced stores selling all kinds of things, from toys to candies to pipes. Lou bought
a vintage green dress, Tony some pipe stuff, and I bought some yummy rock candy. To top off
that evening we all went to eat at an incredible italian place. That was the best italian food I have ever
had.

On Sunday I got up way early to drive with Sensei Therese to an Aikido gathering in Milwaukee. I was overwhelmed by Sensei Mamura, and a roomful of people of all wages, in their gear, flipping people around and getting pinned and having a awesome time. I recently officially
joined the Midwest Aikido Federation, and I’m so excited to see all these people who have made a lifestyle of Aikido. They were so helpful and patient with me(being so much a novice). There were many women blackbelts there too. So incredible I almost cried, totally overwhelming.
After we all practiced, everyone folded their hakama pants on the mat and others pulled out
plastic to cover the wonderful practice mats, then set little tables down on top of those for
the potluck. Kneeling and sitting on the mats, we ate on the little tables and talked with people from all over about Aikido and all sorts of things. at the end I filled myself with all sorts of food, even some sushi(yum!!)

This weekend was also incredible. Friday night I went to Dubuque with Tony, and we caught Sean Connery’s new movie Entrapment, which was a really great flick. On Saturday we returned there to go to Comic World.
So Tony could go bankrupt buying comics, and so I could pick up the lastest Astro City comics.
Then, a quick jaunt back to school, I went to 20 min of a picnic and drove 4 hours to chicago to meet Melanie for the very first time and go to an Ani Difranco concert. Mel had a couple extra tickets and sent out a call to anyone on her list that might want them. We had been trying to meet each other for quite some time, so quite suddenly I was driving farther than I ever had to meet someone I met because of the web. And I didn’t feel strange about it, wonder what that says about society/me. Anyway, I navigate myself to her place, and meet up with her and Rob(another web designer) and later Chris and Beryl(who were such a kick.) We all then piled into Melanies car and motored two more hours down the road to Normal, IL. (Which is anything but.) The concert was a blast, Ani leaping and diving all over the stage, great time. There was a really annoying fan behind us, who was loud enough to have been on stage without a mic. At any softer part of every song, she would yell, “I love you Ani!”, shatterting any effect that Ani was trying to do. Yeah, two hours of “I love you Ani!.” But
still, it was a great time. Then, getting out of Normal was an adventure in itself.

For a while it seemed we had wandered into the latest Romeo and Juliet movie, you know, the modern one. We hit
a gas station and when we wandered in it sounded like the local gang was buying candy and soda, We turn around and suddenly people in suits and dresses with flowers and heels were roaming the aisles. (Apparently prom) and the near deserted parking lot was packed three cars deep with some prom entourage caravan–Wacky!

On our way out of Normal we caught McDs’ just as it was closing, and we had the poor guy who was
closing make us up some munchies, and he decided to divulge his life story to Rob, heh, and told him that he was quitting he job tommorrow, heh. We sat there for a while, while the quitting guy swept the floor and locked us in. We talked of Role Playing and Jyhad, oh so many things.

Then, two more hours in the car brough us back to Melanie awesome pad, with music and Dennis Leary to keep us awake(mostly..giggle). Rob laughed so hard he couldn’t breathe,(a happy soul).
Chris and Beryl left us for the night and we stayed up till 4:30 talking about web and design.
The time went so fast for us, we’d turn around and suddenly realize another hour had passed.
It was really a great time, Melanie’s apartment has a great view of the highway! Really she has a great place decorated ..just so nice .. And her two cats were no end of amusement. After a cuppa starbucks coffee and

But my weekend was still in full swing, I drove 4 hours back here, and went differnt route that took me back through Galena, the weather all weekend was perfect for driving. My right arm is sunburnt, heh, from all that driving.

As I rolled into town I saw Boy(Who I hadn’t seen or several weeks) and Tony pulling outta subway. They headed over to Tony’s pad and I joined them for a couple hours before
I had to go get prettied up a little for a Work banquet. After several hours of forced fun, I returned for a couple more hours with Boy and Tony and Jon, then everyone split, and I went to bed early.

Woo! What a time!

Signing off,

Stacie
