Back to the Faire

July30

Oh, I’m so addicted to the Ren Faire, went twice this weekend. It was so nice to go. Wendy and the gang told us they were going on Saturday, and Brian (SCA) said he’d be there all weekend. It was a good deal easier to find him, than them. Due to the wondrous invention of our far-talkers. We did run into Wendy(in a surprisingly similar bodice ) and the gang, but we were heading different directions, they to the joust, and Carlo, Brian and myself to the car, to put some of our swag, and my sword, minus a scabbard away for safe keeping.

We spent Saturday looking for scabbards and a leather skirt for me. It took all day to find the skirt, but finally at the last moments, we found a leather petal skirt in black suede that looks really nice on me, yah! We also managed to spend a bit of time at the thrown weapons booth. I actually got a couple knives to stick the first time, and hit the target with at least 3 more, though with the wrong end of the knives, heh. We also renewed our Friends of the Faire memberships, yah! And wandered a bit around the faire garden. I should really speak up and meet more of the Faire Friends people, they are really nice and fun. I think I’m going to try to get to a feast this summer.

We didn’t run in to Wendy, et al, again, and when we went out to the car to get sword and swag, we noticed her car was gone. We ate dinner at perkins with Brian, in our garb, heh. It was a lot of fun.

I hadn’t planned on going back on Sunday, but after dinner plans with Carlo’s dad fell through, I called nancy up and dressed up in my new skirt and my garb and hit the road again. We couldn’t find brian on Sunday, he probably didn’t take his phone, but we had a great time. Before we even got in the main gates someone asked to take a picture with Nancy and I. It was such a nicer day than Saturday too, all sunny and bright. We wandered all around, and I found a cute little rose ring to go with my outfit, and Nancy drooled over the puzzle rings. The puzzle ring booth had these awesome astrolabes too.

We also wandered past the most amazing Masquerade shop which has the most beautiful black feather headdress which is my current Faire lust for the season. Rawwr. They make them so they withstand dancing, but still have some movement. And oh, from the back the feathers go all iridescent purple/green. So very cool! We’ll see if I can swing it to buy it. My costume is seriously coming together though, with my rose pouch/bodice/sword/ring, the new skirt and such. It’s so much fun to go in costume. I wish I could wear my costume at work. I feel less powerful when I’m not in that suede and leather getup with my sword.

I’m a bit annoyed that I snapped the elastic in the right arm of my chemise though, bothersome… That’ll have to be fixed before I go back.

Note to self: do not be fooled by the sign that says shish-ka-bobs, and has veggies on it. The actual booth has no veggies and all you get is meat on a stick, which is not my definition of shish-ka-bobs. This is the second time I’ve been fooled. I won’t eat my shish-ka-bob’s without veggies and preferably also pineapple again!

Oh, and we took some pics with Carlo’s Pencam.

Good week

July26

I’m having a pretty good week. Last weekend was crazy. Friday, Heidi and Wendy and I went to the County fair and ate way too much junk food (corndogs, creampuffs, funnelcake, kettle popcorn, and about 12 dollars worth of fresh squeezed lemonade.)

Saturday, I got up early and did a bit of cleaning, because I didn’t want Carlo to come home to an icky house. Then I hastily finished packing my suitcase and jumped in the car with Ace and Jess for a wild weekend and Dan’s wedding. The four of us were all roomates at Dan’s house in Platteville, where they did strange things like filling my room with balloons. We had a great time in Platteville.

He seemed very surprised that we came. (Of course we would). The wedding was at a beautiful Catholic church with the most vibrant and amazing stained glass (wish I had film for my real camera to take pictures), and was a full mass. I’ve never been to any kind of mass. I’ve been to church, but protestants don’t really have all that many rituals and ritual singing. I really enjoyed the singing, and the kneeling benches were neat. Though, the groom’s side of the church was quite empty. We were also the youngest people, aside from the little cousins and grandchildren, at the wedding.

It was very strange to be at a wedding so soon, and dateless, after my own. But we had a good time at the reception in the Knight’s hall. Even though some of our drinks had ants. Dan brought out these glow necklaces, and we danced so hard our legs hurt for three days. After the reception, Marshaus, Dan(not dargel) and his date, Ace and Jess, and I went down and closed the bars. We went to about 3 different ones, and ended up pleasantly buzzed, and happily tired. Ace, Jess and I retired to the air conditioned Econo lodge, and met up with the other three for an oriental lunch on sunday. It was so nice to hang with Ace and Jess, felt just like we were still roomates, I really love them, we always have such good times. We all kinda miss hanging out with Dan Dargel though. Wish him well.

Monday night, even though I was exhausted, I went out with Carlo and Nancy and many others to the Kareoke Kid. We had such a great time, and I finally finally relaxed enough to have a good time, and sang several new songs, tried some new things and completely killed singing Diana Krall’s ‘Peel me a grape’. It was SO COOL It was in my range, and I was all breathy, and the bar quieted down and everyone was listening to me except the japanese girl near the front of the bar yelling at some guy by the videotape wall. I hadn’t even heard it in a while, and when the music started, I just KNEW it. OH, what a high, great feeling. I also sang some other songs, to varying sucess, Criminal, Crazy(P.Cline), Hit Me with your Best Shot(P.Benatar), and I might have sung another one in there somewhere. Carlo sang so many he lost his voice for a couple days. And NANCY, woo, finally worked up the nerve to sing! And she was great!

Carlo and I also did dinner at Porta Bella’s with Scott and Athena. (they have the best white wine sangria in the world there) Scott is an old friend of Carlo’s in town for a couple weeks, and Athena is his very cute girlfriend. After dinner we wandered down to the SCA to get the rest of my marshal paperwork, and throw some knives. All four of us got in line to throw some knives and spears. Athena looked so cute hauling the spears almost twice her size. I also did a tad of marshalling. I’m glad they got to have a taste of what I’m addicted to.

I’d like to take a moment to mention that Pong is extremely clever. Not to mention, a snappy dresser.

Coffee Memories

July19

I had a cup of coffee today, not because I was tired. But because, for some reason I wanted one. They have coffee in the morning here, our beautiful wonderful lady who does a lot of the cleaning and making things run right makes it. There are three choices of powdered creamers, vanilla, Irish crème, and normal. I always take the Irish crème. Though, I suppose that between the creamer and the spoonful of sugar it’s more like hot chocolate than coffee.

I don’t like the possibility of needing to depend on something like coffee daily. I’ve tried very hard for years to minimize addictive behaviors like that. I didn’t even used to like coffee.

The Irish creme reminded me of my high school job, working for Charlie’s, at the carnivals. I sold corndogs and hamburgers and meatball sandwiches, and other yummy faire things. Officially, I was a concessionaire, not a carnie. A carnie to us, was someone who worked for ‘the show,’ traveled with ‘the show.’ One of them came to work with us, his name was Mark. I remember him being difficult, and a little rough around the edges, but I he was a pretty alright guy all around, and tall enough to help us latch and unlatch the top parts of the stands. I remember being really tired one time, and he made me the most wonderful coffee, with Irish crème, lots of sugar, and real whip crème on top. I wonder what he’s doing these days.

Carlo is on his way to Omaha today, his uncle Skip died this week, and the funeral is this weekend. Skip was the husband of Carlo’s aunt, and had three wonderful boys. I feel so bad for them. One of them was spending time up in Eau Claire for a few weeks, several hours north of here I couldn’t make it away from work to go to the funeral. Also, Dan Dargel is getting married this weekend. Ace and Jess and I are going to share a hotel room, and hang out with Marshaus this weekend. It seems so long ago that the 3 of us shared his house. I wish Dan all the most happiness.

I love my glasses, pictures forthcoming.

Savor the moment

July10

There is really too much to relate all at once, about our wonderful wedding. Things were so perfect, worked out so well, my bridesmaids braved last minute show shopping, and hurt ankles to make sure absolutely everything went as planned. The church was just beautiful, the flowers came through, all the little details I had worried too much about were taken care of superbly.

And they all faded into the distance, as I walked teary eyed down the aisle on the arm of my Father. Carlo looked so handsome, and was so fabulous and loving. My Grandmother sang, ‘Just The Thought of you’ and was flawlessly beautiful, and Carlo’s Father sang ‘Eres Tu’. The whole time Carlo gazed at me with wide loving eyes. We were/are so sure, so true, so much in love…

Anyway, there is much to much to express all in one entry. Here are some pictures that Tony and Maria took of the ceremony and a couple from the reception.
