Week after Terror

September18

It’s been a week since the terrorists hit the world trade centers, and the pentagon.

The first few days there was only one story, one channel, one radio station, and it told tales of death, hope, and tears.

I wasn’t directly affected, no one I know was destroyed, that I know of. But I, as many Americans, was hit personally by the attacks.

Not only was my country attacked, but my fellow citizens were in pain. Aimee wrote about the Jedi feeling the pain of so many deaths.

So many lives lost, so many searching for friends, families, fiancée’s, I was in tears for days, listening to the radio on my drive home, arriving with my face damp, and eyes puffy.

And now, with most of the rest of the country, I am numb. I can’t take it all in, I can’t take in enough pain, I can’t make it better. All I can do is pray, and listen, and hope.

The last time an event outside of my family affected me similarly was when the Challenger blew up, and I must have been only four, but I remember crying over the newspaper, upstairs in the house in Kentucky.

And this is so much worse. So much more raw, so much more defeating. I had nightmare’s all last week, where I was running, racing in smoke, from pieces of building and airplane falling, and crashing, amidst tears and screaming and …

The only night I didn’t have a nightmare was the night we watched, in the Mouth of Madness. Can you believe it? That a horror movie would mask and calm my mind from the true terror of last week?

But, it has been a week, and while I feel a bit teary writing the above, America, and I have begun to function again, and while some are functioning better than others, life is moving again.

Carlo’s birthday is on Thursday, those of you who want to join us down at the Karaoke kid Thursday night, are welcome.

A good weekend coming up, more Tolkien reading group stuff, more Middle Earth Role Playing, and a Car Show (more for hubby than me).

Last weekend I cleaned one of our bathrooms for an hour, whew, we also Totally detailed and cleaned my Jeep, yah, Jeep! We also rented 4 DVD’s from Blockbuster, it was good to escape away from the news, which is still widely available, even though we have more than one channel, one story, one station, once again.
