Just before the strange night of candy.

Tuesday, October 30th, 2001

It’s the day before halloween, and I’m a bit dissapointed that we didn’t have time/funds to host a party. I do think I will dress up in my ren costume/dark wig combo for work tomorrow, that does mean getting my husband up early enough tommorrow to help cinch me into my bodice. No real plans for tommorrow night, we did kaeoke last halloween. That was pretty fun. Won’t be the same without Nancy though.

And, Carlo has some freelance work to do tommorrow night, meeting with his clients, which could take a considerable chunk out of night. hrm.

We did go to a small party in Cedarburg, it was ok. Got to dress up, eat yummy snacks, play mystery rummy. Just think it would have been easier to have such a party here, at a more central location, a few people drove from platteville to Cedarburg in one night, ack, that’s no fun at all. Even for us it was a minimum 2 hour drive.

The people at www.tartblossom.com have not sent me the wig I paid for. They have not answered my emails, or my phone calls. Bad tartblossoms. I got a cheap, kinda cute wig at the mall, which has it’s charm, but makes me feel like the animated snow white from disney. Not as cool as the wig I ordered.

In other news, we are extremely excited about the Xbox. We are getting one for each other for our Christmas gift. (how geeky is that!) So excited about so many games for it, least of which is Dead Or Alive 3! *jumps up and down*

I wish Halloween lasted longer.
I’m planning on making spooky food tonight, to take to work tommorrow. It’ll be the first time since I’ve been here that I’ll have brought anything to share.

Life on the tip of a knife.

I am finally well! Yah! After a week and a half of being sick sick sick. It was almost laughable really, got very sick after last weekend, stayed home Tuesday and slept, almost the entire day, and I was sick with sniffly stuff, really bad. Totally different than what I was sick with last week. How crazy is that?

Had an astoundingly good night last night, drove out to Carlo’s work from mine, and we hit Pizza Hut for yummy salad and pizza combo, then we came back to our apartment and watched a so-so episode of Enterprise. I enjoy tuning in though, didn’t realize that I missed Star Trek as much as I do. (not that I really watched much voyager)

Then we jumped in the Jeep, and raced down to the stock pavilion for our weekly dose of sharp pointy knife throwing.

On my way there I rang Brian, who also is a marshal for thrown weapons, who I haven’t seen in a while, to ask him if he was going to come down and thrown weapons with us. I think he was surprised to see me, but I was even more surprised when he said he wasn’t even in state, and that he had been ‘activated’, that is, he’s in the reserves, and had been called to active duty. Wow! crazy, he couldn’t even tell me what state, or where he was. And he had to go pretty quick. Just the miracle of cell phones, I hope he’ll be ok. But I bet it was nice to get a call from ‘back home’. He was, apparently activated on Monday. crazy.

It’s so much better that we can have Thrown weapons each Wednesday night now, instead of every other. I think everyone is really improving, plus we’re getting a lot more interested people dropping in for a few rounds of axes, knives and spears.

Last night went exceptionally smooth. Jack dropped in for a bit, and helped us set up, and then we had four marshals, and one marshal in training to run the range. That’s great, means we all get to throw a bit. When we first started the person would run the range a whole lot, throwing less, because we had a lot less people, and marshals back then.

Plus, we had some really young kids throwing knives with us this week, elementary school, I think, or 7th graders, pretty young, pretty short. A boy named Adrian, and a girl named Sophie. I got to go out in the range and teach them to throw. It was so much fun, and apparently some of the things I said made sense; those kids did better than I usually do. Sophie managed to hit the targets several times, getting 2 of 3 once, and Adrian got all 3 once. It was so cool! They got so excited. It was very funny, Sophie and her Dad were just going to try throwing weapons once, and the ended up staying till 10! heh. Throwing weapons is a very addictive habit.

I even managed to get one of my heavy knives in the board (nice resounding thunk) a couple times, doesn’t take much to make me happy.

It was just an excellent time all round. I’ve been with the SCA for over 6 months now, and it’s a lot of fun getting to know people, getting to learn something new, and be able to teach it!

Also, Ace and Jess came by to see the insanity that happens in the pavilion each Wednesday (heavy weapons, fencing, middle eastern dance, some fletching, sewing, archer and thrown weapons). It was so nice to see them, and talk with them about their upcoming trip to Japan(I’m so jealous). Though, regrettably, I kept getting distracted by the range(and teaching), still, they seemed very surprised this stuff even happens in our town. heh. Glad to surprise them. I was a bit disappointed they didn’t try to throw some weapons with us, but, maybe next time. :)

The only thing that is a slight cloud lately is this extra cool wig I ordered to wear for this Saturday, from www.tartblossom.com I’m still waiting to get my shipping number, and I ordered it Last Friday, and need it basically today or tomorrow, seriously, and I’m so frustrated, it’s the perfect wig, and they got my money through paypal, and now they don’t reply to my ‘have any clue if it’s shipped’ mails. Sigh. Hope it gets here soon. grrr

No Plot? No Problem? Chapter 2

Getting hyped for NaNoWriMo, really hyped, we went out and bought me one of those cute little mini-tape recorders, so I can maximize my NaNo month, by recording my novel thoughts to and from work (45 min each way)

So hyped!!! I am so totally going to do this!

Oye, it’s really late for me to be up. And, I’m in platteville, watching the guys play half-life, we don’t have enough machines for us all to play, and I played for a bit earlier.

I’m soo tired, but we had a good day, played 7th Sea, where I’m playing an explorer norse albino chick with weather rune power! heh, ok, so only a little power, still, good times, and nostalgic feelings abound, being back in my college towne, hanging out with my college friends, most of us are graduated now. It’s really cool and strange to realize I’ve had the same set of friends for over 3 years now, how in the world did that happen?

I got an email from a WI couple doing Nanowrimo! yah! looking for other Wrimos in WI, send me mail, we’ll see how many we can try to get together for launch, and wrap up. The more the merrier, we need to make plans, share tips and go insane, all together! woo!

No plot? No Problem. chapter 1

Ugh, I have a killer ear ache, as well as general sickiness, bleh. My whole face hurts. I’m just glad that the doctor could get me in at 10:00 today. I was able to eat lunch with my husband and mother, which was nice. The clinic I went to was in my mom’s towne, about 10 min away from where I live. I’m glad my new insurance lets me keep the doctor I’ve had for years. He’s really nice, and reminded us a good deal of Doogie Howser when he first started, he’s aged a bit since then. But, I’ve been going to him since high school, it’s nice to know he’ll be there and make me all better.

If we go tonight, I have to figure out how to get the weapons to the SCA thrown weapons at the stock pavilion tonight.

I love autumn, took some pictures last night and this afternoon with my advantix elph. I developed pictures from dan’s wedding, and they didn’t come out blurry like one roll that made me think that my beautiful spy camera was broken. Still wish I had a digital camera though, that would make things sooo much easier, especially because my scanner is being bad, apparently there are no more drivers for windows 2000, or nt, because it’s so old. I got it my frosh year of college, so, 96 or 97, and it works fine, no bells or whistles, but it scans, and grr, it’s just no fun to try to use on vincent, my old computer that is slowly dying, and super slow, p150… and having hard drive failures, even when we take the drives out….

woo, just checked amazon, my knife throwing book seems to have been delivered!!! yah, now perhaps I’ll be able to learn some stuff…

my ear hurts. :(

I signed up here

NaNoWriMo

I always wanted to write a book, why not try it in a month. Sounds like good experience to me. And, if it’s even just ok, I can edit and add to it after the month, and perhaps have something to be proud of. I remember I used to want to be a writer… might as well start now!

you should try it too. why not? what’s keeping you from writing a novel?

Server changes

Thursday, October 11th, 2001

Please pardon any problems, we’ve moved servers since last weekend, and may still need to configure/fix certain things.

Also, due to a freeze on the db’s, the last four updates or so have been added manually by me tonight, so you can check out what you may have missed, free of charge.

I think I’ll like sitting in the IT area at work. I am veyr happy they’ve allowed me to go there instead of in with accounting, I feel like I fit more, which is nice.

Amoura and I did some more drawing this week, but we did get a bit more distracted than last week, still, I made the start of a pretty sketch, and looked through some books on drawing manga style, costumes around the world.

Ok, I’m tired now, and must toddle off to bed. Have a good night dearies.

Girl with one shoe

Tuesday, October 9th, 2001

Yah, I lost 2.4 lbs last week! bonus!

I sleep with one foot out of the covers, last night I wondered if I only have one shoe in the dreaming place. Perhaps they know me there, as the girl with one shoe. Or perhaps I have a boot, half of a set from a 7 league boots, a 3 and half league boot that makes a noise like thunder when I use it. Perhaps a person with the lightning half is searching for this one!

I moved desks yesterday, brought in an ikea lamp, and some space channel five swag. Trying to make this little space mine.

Good days

Thursday, October 4th, 2001

mmm, I’m really tired, but I want to record the couple good days I’ve had this week.

Yesterday was a very productive day. I finally got to have the meeting with all the higher-ups at work about launching the website. I was pretty well prepared, brought handouts that discussed how I thought info should flow onto the site, and made it obvious that I waiting for content. They’ve assigned someone to gather said content, yah! and!! I arbitrarily picked a date for the launch, and no one said a peep about it! We’ll see how close to that we land, but still, it’s so nice to have an actual drop date for this puppy. heh. About 3 min into the meeting they asked for a site outline, which I had to go print out, I pulled up the outline, and quickly added and deleted some things that have been changed recently. Then I printed them out, but I forgot to get rid of the date at the top, 3-26-01, basically one of my first days at this job, when I reorganized on paper what the site would need to be reorganized and structured. It sure has taken a long time to get to this point. But yah! I’m hoping to launch before thanksgiving, I’m so excited about how much easier it will be for our customers to get information!

Right before I leave work I get a call from my husband who was reminding me about the wedding shower of a family friend that I was supposed to go to with my mom. After we finally figured out where she was (at home and not answering her cell) I headed over there and we rushed off to the shower, which was short and sweet, with no silly games (even though I like those) So strange that she and her sister soon are getting married, these are girls I used to play barbie and pretty ponies with.

As we were leaving I realized it wasn’t quite 8 yet, and I’d have time to go to the SCA after all, for thrown weapons week!!! But I was still in my work clothes and didn’t want to take them down to the stock pavilion. So! heh. I raided my mom’s closet, and she grabbed some black jeans out of a bag she’s been saving for me, and I was able to squeeze into a pair of 14’s! yah! (this is a good thing, last year or so I do believe I was in 18’s) and she loaned me a really sexy drapey shirt (reminded me of those eighties ripped out collar shirts, but with just a v neck.)

And I rushed down to thrown weapons, in a seriously good mood, I didn’t even mind too much that I had to wait for the train to pass at that intersection downtown. I got to the pavilion, I gabbed with our Marshall of thrown weapons , and he informed me that even though I don’t have my Marshal card yet, that me, and the three others who have sent our paperwork in a long time ago, are official marshalls of thrown weapons too, (the Head marshall of TW, for our kingdom is stepping down, so there’ve been paperwork issues lately)

This caused me to break into song spontanously (and strangely enough I was joined)

I’m a Marshall

You’re a Marshall

Wouldn’t you like to be a Marshall too! (dr. pepper?)

And I got to throw weapons, ok, so I didn’t throw well at all, but the tiny knives kept making the cutest little *ping* noises as they bounced off the targets. I got to do some marshalling (yelling!) and general socializin, and we all decided to start doing thrown weapons every week instead of everyother week now that we have roughly 5.5 marshalls, and I ended up with all the pointy weapons in my Jeep! (Which means I have to remember to go next week, or they will just have spears to throw, heh, they wouldn’t fit in my Jeep, and had to go in someones truck.)

I had an awesome time, and really feel like I’m getting to know some people down there.

And tonight, Amoura (nice girl from the plant story) and I(me, well, me) got together for the first time to draw together, and it was so much fun! We watched friends and the princess bride, and she drooled over my Edward Muybridge book, and my fashion design book (9 Heads), and we both came up with some neat sketches by the end. And I’m so excited that we’re going to keep doing this (and Zara too, when she’s done with softball!!) an I can already see some improvement. I didn’t wander off mid-drawing. And! I did a semi-3/4 pose, not straight on, and hands, and some background elements (ok, a pot, and a bush, but it’s a start) and! it’s not just a disembodied head like my usual subject matter! If we get to do this often enough, we can’t help but end up with some fun things by the end of it all.

I even started the sketch with the col-erase that Carlo keeps trying to get me to use, and you know what? I think it actually helped, a lot less mess. I do wish I had a slightly softer lead col-erase though, this one is very pointy and hard, and I push too hard, which messes up later lines.

Anyway, whew, that was a lot to write, but I want to remember this good mood, this productive mood, this independent wonderful mood.

*the hills are alive…. lah laha heh heh heh.*

I’m ok, really I am. ;)

Richard Dean Dream

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2001

I had the strangest dream last night.

I think I had been cast as an extra or something for some tv show, and there was a scene in this big empty steel cube, or old metal warehouse, or space bay with no windows but some strange metal ball about 3 times my height hovering in the center. And I was in some sort of space suit, and floating around, I guess examining the sphere with caution, not touching it, staying about 20 feet away. The script called for ‘the french man’, and some guy in a larger space suit/mecha suit flies up, he had actual jets or something, I was just flying around in a regular suit.

There was a brief battle scene or some kind of interaction, and I fly at his feet, and spin him around, and we’re in the shadow of the sphere now. It might have been the end of the scene, but things are foggy.

We were floating inside the hanger and there was air, so I wasn’t wearing a helmet, and I flew around the back of ‘the frenchman’ and unlatch his helmet, and low and behold, it’s Richard Dean Anderson !! So strange, but I’m a fangirl, and I gush over how I used to have a crush on him, and what an honor it is to act with him in this movie or whatever, and as I finish taking off his helmet, my hands brush the sides of his neck (kinda like playing a harp, does that make sense?) and I felt a spark of electricity.

So I guess he gets out of his mecha suit, because he’s in a regular space suit like mine (not nasa suits, more like stargate uniforms, or stillsuits even though I’ve never watched a full episode of the tv show) and we float down some hallway, and we’re talking, and I guess he’s actually also the director for this movie and I kept talking about how I always wanted to act with him, and he says something about how he picked me specifically for this scene, and thought it’d be fun to act with me too.

I guess I go home, and several weeks later, I’m lying in my bedroom, in my apartment, which is not in wisconsin, must be california somewhere, and the sun is just coming through the curtains by the balcony, and I get a phone call, it’s Richard, and he tells me I’ve got the part in some upcoming movie, yah!

Ren Faire Reflections

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2001

Php is fun!

Ok, so a lot of people have already seen these…

but! I updated the php, and added some features that won’t be apparent at all (toggle file name, subtitles in a text file) but, anyway, I subtitled, eer captioned (so much anime will have you subtitling everything) the pics from Bristol Ren faire this last summer. Mmm, wish it were going on now, I love the Ren Faire.

Oh, and I took the random shots of my bosom out of there. I took those pics, and as amusing as they truly are… they seemed to distract a good number of people. And, addressing the amount of flesh I show off in my bodice, well, my husband helps me get into the thing before we go to any faire, so if he’s ok with it, I am too. fyi! ( so much fun!)
