Life on the tip of a knife.
I am finally well! Yah! After a week and a half of being sick sick sick. It was almost laughable really, got very sick after last weekend, stayed home Tuesday and slept, almost the entire day, and I was sick with sniffly stuff, really bad. Totally different than what I was sick with last week. How crazy is that?
Had an astoundingly good night last night, drove out to Carlo’s work from mine, and we hit Pizza Hut for yummy salad and pizza combo, then we came back to our apartment and watched a so-so episode of Enterprise. I enjoy tuning in though, didn’t realize that I missed Star Trek as much as I do. (not that I really watched much voyager)
Then we jumped in the Jeep, and raced down to the stock pavilion for our weekly dose of sharp pointy knife throwing.
On my way there I rang Brian, who also is a marshal for thrown weapons, who I haven’t seen in a while, to ask him if he was going to come down and thrown weapons with us. I think he was surprised to see me, but I was even more surprised when he said he wasn’t even in state, and that he had been ‘activated’, that is, he’s in the reserves, and had been called to active duty. Wow! crazy, he couldn’t even tell me what state, or where he was. And he had to go pretty quick. Just the miracle of cell phones, I hope he’ll be ok. But I bet it was nice to get a call from ‘back home’. He was, apparently activated on Monday. crazy.
It’s so much better that we can have Thrown weapons each Wednesday night now, instead of every other. I think everyone is really improving, plus we’re getting a lot more interested people dropping in for a few rounds of axes, knives and spears.
Last night went exceptionally smooth. Jack dropped in for a bit, and helped us set up, and then we had four marshals, and one marshal in training to run the range. That’s great, means we all get to throw a bit. When we first started the person would run the range a whole lot, throwing less, because we had a lot less people, and marshals back then.
Plus, we had some really young kids throwing knives with us this week, elementary school, I think, or 7th graders, pretty young, pretty short. A boy named Adrian, and a girl named Sophie. I got to go out in the range and teach them to throw. It was so much fun, and apparently some of the things I said made sense; those kids did better than I usually do. Sophie managed to hit the targets several times, getting 2 of 3 once, and Adrian got all 3 once. It was so cool! They got so excited. It was very funny, Sophie and her Dad were just going to try throwing weapons once, and the ended up staying till 10! heh. Throwing weapons is a very addictive habit.
I even managed to get one of my heavy knives in the board (nice resounding thunk) a couple times, doesn’t take much to make me happy.
It was just an excellent time all round. I’ve been with the SCA for over 6 months now, and it’s a lot of fun getting to know people, getting to learn something new, and be able to teach it!
Also, Ace and Jess came by to see the insanity that happens in the pavilion each Wednesday (heavy weapons, fencing, middle eastern dance, some fletching, sewing, archer and thrown weapons). It was so nice to see them, and talk with them about their upcoming trip to Japan(I’m so jealous). Though, regrettably, I kept getting distracted by the range(and teaching), still, they seemed very surprised this stuff even happens in our town. heh. Glad to surprise them. I was a bit disappointed they didn’t try to throw some weapons with us, but, maybe next time. ![]()
The only thing that is a slight cloud lately is this extra cool wig I ordered to wear for this Saturday, from www.tartblossom.com I’m still waiting to get my shipping number, and I ordered it Last Friday, and need it basically today or tomorrow, seriously, and I’m so frustrated, it’s the perfect wig, and they got my money through paypal, and now they don’t reply to my ‘have any clue if it’s shipped’ mails. Sigh. Hope it gets here soon. grrr
