Slew of Happiness

Monday, January 28th, 2002

I had a really great time last Thursday. Frank was in town, and I met with him and several sonic foundry and ex sofo people at the crystal bar on willy street. It’s down a couple blocks from where I used to work above the coffee shop with many of them. It was really good to see Frank, and I got to talk to Kim and some other people. Man, I really miss the whole crew. The whole set, creative, intelligent, fun people. Willy street feels so much more alive than the little town I’m working in. It’s definitely got a lot more going on, close to the capitol, bike paths, and the Willy-Street Co-op. I had a good time at the Crystal Bar with everyone, and Dan even called us on Frank’s phone from Vegas to say hi. After a couple drinks, which various people, in all their goodness, bought for me. We wandered down to Monty’s Blue Plate Diner.

I always try to taste something new, and usually vegetarian when I’m with Frank, who is vegetarian. So I ordered the Meatless Loaf of the Gods, which was very tasty, made of carrots and cheese and mushrooms, and cooked like a square cake, topped with a cashew ginger sauce and served with potatoes. It was very excellent. I joked with Kim and Frank later that I was veggie-curious, and they thought I should try some tofurky (cute side note, Frank always sends out a ‘Go Tofurky’ email to his friends around Thanksgiving, each year I always go check out the url, I really might try it someday). When I mentioned I also like to eat meat, they said I should have some meals with both, making me bi-veggie-curious. *giggle* Oh no, I’m craving tofu now.

After a great meal and some wonderful conversation with Frank, in which I realized how much I miss having him around up north here. We remembered that our friend Nick, also a sonic foundry connection was playing at the King Club with his band State 4. Kim, Frank and I jumped in my jeep and headed over for a set of State 4 music in the really cool King Club. It’s primarily a jazz club, and while a bit small, is very intimate and fun. They have a huge stained glass window behind the bar, and bathrooms labeled Duke and Ella.

We got to chat a bit with Nick who was floored to see Frank, and surprised to see me. He looks really good, I haven’t seen him in months, and he’s lost a ton of weight, shaved his head and trimmed his facial hair. Looks so hip now. He’s also engaged! Wow. The singer, a cute blonde in black and red leather like outfit is his fiancé. Way to go Nick! And they sounded really good. ‘We’re not jazz, but that’s ok’ They have a neat blend of electronic, trance, rock music. It was so cool to see them all get into it. So proud of Nick.

It was nice to go out, have no pressing plans other than getting some food at sometime, and see where we’d end up. If I hadn’t had this huge work deadline, I would have tried to take Thursday off to hang out with Frank, but it worked out ok anyway.

Friday night Carlo and I dragged Ace and Jess off to see a strange French movie called Amelie. (Actually before the movie, we hit Noodles and Co, and I did have tofu in my pan-fried japanese noodles, yum!) The movie is actually absolutely enchanting, and very fun, I liked it better than Moulin Rouge, and it was very fresh and engaging. I want to see it again. I highly recommend it. Then we went over and played a little monkey ball on their game cube, played with the laser pointer and the cat, and they introduced me to Dance Dance Revolution. DDR is extremely addictive, makes me wish I had a set up like that, so much fun to have a dancing video game! Then we all sat around and talked video games till late.

Saturday night was crazy cool as well, we finally got enough people together to play linked Halo, we had 7 people! (which is all the controllers we have together with Sarah’s controllers) I think we ended up playing till 3 or later. Adam and Ace and Jess, and Dennis, and Sarah and Carlo and I. It was so much fun, we did a lot of capture the flag, and king of the hill, and near the end a huge bout of everyone verses Carlo in a straight up slayer (deathmatch) mode, to 50 kills. And he won! Wow.

Sunday was nice and relaxing. Carlo made yummy omelets. It was so nice out, around 55 degrees, so we woke the ‘cuda from her winter nap and took a long cruise, no destination in mind, while we schemed and brainstormed, and eventually ended up in Janesville where we dropped in on Doug and Tracy.
Then of course, back to home where we had Sarah and Aza over for a bit, we watched Blood the last vampire, and the three of them played Halo while I worked for 5 hours on work stuff.

I’m a bit drained from all the festivities. But I didn’t want to forget to record all the coolness.

Have a great week!

Pause in motion

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2002

Just been swamped lately. Mostly work stuff. A lot of work stuff. A good deal of it more than simply the work. This, however is hardly the forum for such things.

I would like to thank those who took the time to send messages to my phone last Friday, really meant a lot to me, made me smile, after an especially trying week.

Last week I worked an extra 11 hours on web stuff for work, I was running ragged by the end of Friday, and your little notes were a great pick me up. They showed up on my drive home, as I wandered back into digital service. Really made me smile.

I just got out of a hot bath. Finally got to try out the bath crystals I got for Christmas, and they were really amazing. Very relaxing. I now smell like sandalwood and citrus, overlayed with the scents of cucumber and melon body splash.

This project has been really trying lately, looking forward to finishing it, looking forward to seeing Frank tomorrow night.

Looking forward to hearing about the tech school and my application.

Goodnight.

Art school!!!

Monday, January 14th, 2002

Friday was a complete disaster. Until after work, when things got a lot better.

We raced over to MATC, so I could drop off my application before 6. When we got there, 20 min early, they were closed! oh no! A bit disappointed, I wandered to a nearby computer where someone had opened Paint.

I begged my husband to let me draw an elf on the screen (Yah for random elves), and he acquiesced, and patiently let me sit down for a quick little elf sketch.

I drew a cute little happy elf face, and suddenly someone walked out of the admissions office! She was really nice, and even let me hand in my application and $30 check! Just think, if we wouldn’t have stopped for a couple min to let me draw an elf, we’d have totally missed her! This bodes well for art school.

They are supposed to have an Awesome Art Program, I’m so excited to be part of it. It’s one of the schools more popular program, so you actually have to apply!

They have a year waiting list, but that’s not stopping me, I’ve applied for this fall, and I’ll take one or two classes, hopefully mostly for the program, and they’ll count for after I get in! I’m all happy, most of my gen ed’s are taken care of, so it’ll be mostly all Art Art Art baby!

Yah! So, my high school transcripts should be on their way over, but I still need to fax for my college transcripts. But! Anyway! I’m practically applied to the Tech School Art program.

I’m so excited that I’ll finally get all the color and design and art history stuff I’ve been missing, plus the opportunities to learn new techniques and materials.

Yah!

After applying, we went to Imperial Garden with my husband’s Mom, and step dad. and had a really nice time. I ordered miso soup and Sushi rolls! and one piece of tuna sushi, yummy. We all shared some California rolls, and I had eel and scallop rolls, woo! So cool too, because scallop rolls and miso soup are not on the menu, but I got them anyway! hee.

So, a much better night than day. It’s a new week, I have a lot to accomplish(internal site launch, Friday), let’s see how things go. I’m doing all I can to make this a better week than the last one.

and yes, I know, I need to update about the Hollidays, they really were lovely. So, when I have time, that’ll appear too.

Happy New Year!
