Metahari Comic Cover
.

Wow, when I agreed to do a Tax Day Art Trade with my friend Mark, due on the 15th, I expected that we’d both be working away in April to get things finished. He ended up with some free time over the holidays to create this for me. Wow! Just fantastic! He searched my gallery, picked out the monster woman in my misc. gallery to be the villan, and off he went.

I totally can’t wait to get this in the mail, it’s so getting matted, framed and hung in my art room.

Very cool.

(Mark rocks! He programs video games out in cali)

Balance

Ah, yes, yah for color! This illustration has been begging me to finish it since the first sketch, but it needed major work on the legs to make any sort of sense.

I’ve made a goal of 12 original illustrations for this year. This is the first one.

Also, I’ve made a page for all the commissions we did for the Get Lea Hernandez to Anime Iowa Gig, I need to do some resizing and fix the css buttons at the top, but I wanted to share. We have a fantastic group of people, I’m so proud. So, check em out.

Last week, the day I got back from the airport, I got part of my christmas copic order(the rest of the stuff is backordered) and my cool Marker Magic Book!! It’s great, more on that later. Also got to go out with my hubby to Damon’s, and we got right in even though all the other places to eat were full all over our side of town.

It’s really good to be home. Sunday night I got to hang out with K&M, and do arty things, which was fantastic, and I’ve missed them and art, and we had a super productive time, I think they got almost 3 pages of Kim’s comic done, and we worked out the anatomy better for this balance piece.

Ok, gotta go, I have a meeting that last’s all day today. guh!

In Virginia for my Uncle’s funeral

Tuesday, January 18th, 2005

made it to VA yesterday. my flight sunday night was cancelled, after I’d sat in the airport about 4 hours. So, I was up at 3:20 yesterday to check in at 4:15 and fly out at 5:30, and made my flight into Roanoak, arriving around 10:30.

Visitation from noon till four was about all I could handle, though there was even more visitation from from six till eight or so.

Funeral is at two today.

The community down here has shown our family how much my uncle Steve has been loved. He’s coached at the middle and high schools for years, and seems like he’s know just about everyone around here. There was a constant stream of people coming through to see him.

It’s all very sad. But it is nice to be surrounded by so many of my aunts, uncles and cousins.

this hotel has free internet, but it’s a bit wonky on the wireless, not sure if i’ll be on again tonight.

Copic Day!

Wednesday, January 12th, 2005

Did I say $60 in copic merch? After looking at my certificates, I realized my husband’s family has given me $70! woo! I had to call the company to be able to use both certificates for one order, but I’m all jazzed at how helpful they were and they manually put my order in and I gave them permission to charge for the $3.85 I went over. I got some nice colors I can’t wait to try, a blender marker,a couple sepia microliner pens, and some of their official marker paper. heh.

Wow !!

My aunt sent us some amazon certificates for Christmas too, so I ordered a book called Marker Magic: Which looks very interesting. It has several chapters on simulating/rendering textures and metals, sounds just like the kind of reference book I need. (I’d love to hear what your absolute favorite/most used copic colors are. It’s hard to decide sometimes.)

I promise to give a mini review when I get it. (I am also very open to other marker tech. books if you have any to refer, there are slim pickings. I do have the How to Draw Manga Special already.)

So, sometime next week, I’m going to get lots of marker love!

I have been so tired this week, and have no clue why. I’m getting about 6.5 hours of sleep, which is usually fine. I am feeling utterly, painfully, exhausted. At least today the feeling didn’t start until about 1:30, whereas on Monday I felt that way about when I got to work.

But, I did go grocery shopping on Monday, have been trying to drink more water (especially today), and plan on getting my crock pot stuff all ready tonight for bbq ribs for tomorrow. Progress, yo.

Some ideas for taking better care of myself.

Tuesday, January 11th, 2005
I am trying to acknowledge the fact that parts of my lifestyle are unhealthy, and may be slowly poisoning myself with my poor choices.

Here are some things I’d like to work on:
*shop for groceries regularly(2 a month is fine)
*Cook dinner a couple times a week (crockpot is fine)
(These two points will help me eat better, and look forward to having nice meals, usually I come home, have nothing in the fridge and am too tired to cook. Thus, the takeout/delivery option. Easy, yes, but also expensive and usually not healthy)
*Drink more water
*Get better sleep
(I know these two will make me feel better quickly)
*exercise more
(but I’m really more concerned about the above 4. I think if I can make those a priority the rest will be easier)

is it lunchtime yet?

Loot Report: Holy Cow!

Tuesday, January 4th, 2005

I received many many lovely things for Christmas, from my family, and from my husband’s family. I am quite thankful, and overwhelmed really with everyone’s generosity.

Highlights:

  • $60 in certificates for copicmarker.com!!!! (From my mother in law, and step sister in law) And a couple copic wallets winging their way already to my mailbox!
  • Lots of animation!- Gargoyles 1st Season DVD (yay!), Mulan, Aladdin, TitanAE.
  • 2 Charles DeLint Books!
  • 11 video games, for a variety of systems and one for my mac.
  • (Offically more than I’ll have time to finish in 3 years, but very cool! So awesome how cheap sequel games get when the third game comes out. )

  • A printer cable! (I’ve been using an extra one of pete’s, but it is only foot long, meaning I have to sit very close to my printer to print.)
  • The Wicked CD!
  • Some great clothing and gift certificates too.

We finished up Christmas with my hubby’s family on Sunday. It was also Thanksgiving for his step-sister, who misses out on Thanksgiving because she works in Germany. So it was more of a Thanksmas.

It was very pleasant and relaxing, too, we didn’t have to rush off to anywhere else, and were able to enjoy the meal and the company and have a very nice time indeed.
