Dreaming the Impossible Dream since 1997

page 11 is inked!

April28

Yay! I finished inking page 11 last night, about 11pm.
I did manage to get a little time with Lumines last night, it really is as addictive as they say. Strange and Beautiful, a puzzle game where the whole screen will change themes as you play, including associated sounds. Sometimes the backgrounds do what they can to distract you. It’s brilliant.

My husband has been surfing teh intarweb on the psp. Our geekery knows no bounds.

yet another D&D class quiz.

April28

I Am A: Lawful Good Elf Bard Mage (This is not especially surprising. :) )

I Am A: Lawful Good Elf Bard Mage

Alignment:
Lawful Good characters are the epitome of all that is just and good. They believe in order and governments that work for the benefit of all, and generally do not mind doing direct work to further their beliefs.

Race:
Elves are the eldest of all races, although they are generally a bit smaller than humans. They are generally well-cultured, artistic, easy-going, and because of their long lives, unconcerned with day-to-day activities that other races frequently concern themselves with. Elves are, effectively, immortal, although they can be killed. After a thousand years or so, they simply pass on to the next plane of existance.

Primary Class:
Bards are the entertainers. They sing, dance, and play instruments to make other people happy, and, frequently, make money. They also tend to dabble in magic a bit.

Secondary Class:
Mages harness the magical energies for their own use. Spells, spell books, and long hours in the library are their loves. While often not physically strong, their mental talents can make up for this.

Deity:
Oghma is the Neutral Good god of knowledge and invention. He is also known as the Binder of What is Known, and is the Patron of Bards. His followers believe that knowledge reigns supreme, and is the basis for everything else that is done. They wear white shirts and pants, with a black and gold braided vest, and a small, box-like hat. All priests of Oghma are known as Loremasters. Oghma’s symbol is a scroll.

Our Lady of Emergent Complexity: Happy Thingie 2004

Our Lady of Emergent Complexity: Happy Thingie 2004
Uploaded by Metahari.

This finally got to it’s recipient in Japan.

” Our Lady of Emergent Complexity, stands before her temple, with flowtending in the background.”

This is based off of art(primarily the building) from the GameNeverEnding, a game created by the makers of flickr.com, prior to the fantastic photo sharing site. Flowtending was a flash mini-game inside GNE, where you had to keep all the rectangles and squares from overlapping as they flowed across the screen. Their orientation would determine how fast they traveled, it was addictive and fun!

Copic markers, Copic marker paper, micron inks.

I designed the Lady, but she is a character from GameNeverEnding. The game only made reference to her. I did not design the temple, that actually was a prior design.

This was done for a holiday art trade, and the original markers on copic paper was sent off to Japan. I had to wait to post about it until Emily got it! (She didn’t know I had her name)

After I sent it, I was contantly checking the post office site, and then the “What time is it now” in Japan, to try to figure out when she’d be off work and able to get it.

I’m really happy with the way it turned out!

It also looks good on our new PSP

I love comicking.

page 11, in progress.
Uploaded by Metahari.

Wow, we spent all weekend making comics, and it was lovely. Seriously, most of Saturday, 9+hours or so, was spent on comics, our Studio truckin along on all the things we need to get done soon for our 3rd zine. (our 6th book!)

Allie really helped me work through the middle panel here, by suggesting a completely different camera angle which has salvaged the page from boredom, and made me much more excited about drawing it!

I was surprised, again, by my inability to gauge how long a page will take me. I fully expected to be inking Saturday. It was not too be, but I did feel really good about the progress on the pencils.

Last night, I finished about a third of the inking. Tonight I’ll fix some of the loose penciled panels, and complete the inking. Then it’s Scan city, baby! woo.

That leaves me just page 12(and about a week), and the toning of pages 10-12. whew. Deadline (doomline) approaching.

I miss illustration friday, and really need to get working on my belated half of the art trade with Mark. But those are things that will happen A.Z. (After Zine!)

These three new pages will be appearing online, likely after the zine is done, biweekly, and that is lovely. This issue features my best work to date. (Issue 2, pages 9-16)

We plan to finish this issue by Anime Iowa, just 4 more pages. That means, I’ll be half done with Tabloid Roulette this year! That’s a real accomplishment.

Our Presentation went well!

Our presentation went very well. We had 10 tips for making manga, ranging from ’start it now’ and touching on tools and teamwork. We had a modest crowd, about 20some people, but they were all very interested in what we had to say, and happy to be there. Some even took notes!

The manager who had invited us to speak seemed very pleased and asked us back in about 8 weeks. We may also be called on to give the same talk at the west side mall location. :) More pics here

I also got a very important task done this weekend, I sent out my very important art trade that I was supposed to send around the holidays. After the recipient gets it, I’ll be able to share it all with you. (those who didn’t see it in person! ) it’s very cool.

I did not finish my half of the Tax Day art trade for Mark, which is sad. But between the presentation and all my family stuff… I’ve done no art for two weeks. :(

Hoping to get cracking on my stuff for the zine and the art trade as well, this week. Now, especially that some other things are off my plate, and out of my hands.

dad is pulled off his cancer trial, for it apparently not working as well as hoped. (he may start on a doubleblind trial in a couple weeks, but the side effects of those drugs are more harsh than what he’s been on)
