Walls Robed and Pages started

Wednesday, June 29th, 2005

hey! We went crazy last weekend, and hung all sorts of things up. 4 little
asian kanji tiles with the seasons on them in our living room. Also, a
french poster ‘The Chat Noir’ over our mantel. We also put some picture frames with pictures on our mantel.

3 big French comic posters by Schuttin, and a framed Lord of the Rings
Ilustration in our dining room.
Last Pages, Ultimate Book, Biblioteque

And! We put some oriental prints, one geisha and one leaping fish, in our pocket bathroom on the main level.

We also put 3 french/italian medium sized vintage posters in our kitchen. Our apartment looks so much different now, the blank walls are gone and our new asian-franco-illustration fusion is all over the walls. whee. Most of the main level has things on the wall, I should take some pictures to share.

That leaves the upstairs, we need to outfit things up there as well. I need to put all sorts of posters and original art up in my art room. I can’t wait to go in there and be surrounded by inspiring art.

Pages 13 and 14 thumbnailed:
Ooh, heading into the final stretch to halfway, and the end of issue two. (yes, small issues 8 pages a piece)

I got two pages thumbnailed last night, in not too long of time. It looks like we.ll have plenty of space for dialog, and some fun emotional poses. Aiming for an extreme forshortening in panel 2 of page 13. Hope to pull that off. This comic is really all about experimentation, and you can see that I’ve learned a lot in 3 years.

Hoping to have these(and 15 and 16) finished by the end of August.

Also, have officially decided to yes, participate in Nanowrimo this year. I have recently finished outlining my book from 2 years ago, and am heading into serious editing/rewriting as well.

need tears?

dear internet diary,
9:17am, and I am weeping already. The funeral home has this video
tribute thing they make for the funeral, and also put online. Of course, I
had to click it, it’s beautiful.

Dad’s Video Tribute

you can watch it too, it features many pictures of my father, and his
family, which flip through to Josh Groban’s music. Some of the pictures
include me when I was about 10 years old.

Days around my Father’s death

Tuesday, June 21st, 2005

The day before my father died, after we did all we could at the hospice, my brother and husband and I went to see Batman Begins.

We loved it, of course. Sounds like many people online are in agreement. I am surprised though, that no one has mentioned how man-pretty the scarecrow was.

We also picked up my bridesmaid dress for Jess, and it was
a lot prettier in person, and fit pretty well. I took a picture to show
her later.

The day my father died, Lea called me from texas, and we chatted for a while, before I finally went to sleep around 2am. It was a lovely surprise, and will be a dear thing to remember. We talked about death, life, art and children, and tears like large kittens rolling down my face.

The day after my father died was Father’s day, and while I felt no specific compulsion to mourn the day, I did have a hard time missing my father. I drew a copic fish for my grandpa, to symbolize the fishing license my mom and here sister were buying him. We ate all that food that I had ordered from Ohio for my father. The ribs were wonderful, tender and with a sweet sauce, the skyline chili was awesome over the spagetti, and the Graeter’s icecream was fantastic, especially the raspberry chocolate chip. The ice cream was a dark purple, and had large chunks of darker chocolate inside, fantastic.

Yesterday, we finalized things with the funeral home, http://www.866allfaiths.com , and ordered some flowers for the casket. (tropical leaves, bamboo, delphiniums, bells, purple heather, and yellow star shaped flowers). I also, finally finished outlining my book, Shroud.
Now the rewrite! Then Becca did my hair, my hair is now dark red, and feathered a bit around my face.

Today, we plan on shopping for appropriate clothing for the marathon visitation tomorrow night. (2-4, 6-8) and for the funeral(thursday 10-12). My mother has decided, we will not wear black.

There is much sadness, but not too much regret, we got a lot of closure. The biggest pain is of course, the ongoing absence of such a fantastic, well-read, compassionate man that was my father. The obituary we wrote is online here : http://www.866allfaiths.com/obituary.aspx?MemberId=8922
Also, family is starting to arrive, my cousin Abby will be here at 2.

my father is dead

Saturday, June 18th, 2005

My father died this morning at 11:12, in the beautiful hospice. Perhaps I will write more details later, but we had a very special time, and were able to say goodbye. He had us come in one by one, yesterday, and shared how much we meant to him.

I’ll be around online, ect this week, but am taking the week off of work. Funeral is thursday, visitation wednesday.

I love you Daddy.

Any Buckeyes out there?

Thursday, June 16th, 2005

I’m really out of it today. I struggled with some art last night. (copics making inks smear. :P)

Also, last night my father was taken to the hospital in an ambulance, for a great deal of pain, most likely due to the cancer in his spine. He got a morphine drip last weekend, and had the dosage upped yesterday, but it still wasn’t enough to moderate the pain, and they were having trouble getting him into the car because it hurt so much to move they had to call the ambulance. My mother and brother spent most of the night waiting to get him admitted in the emergency room, and then some sort of scan to see if there’s a tumor or something pressing on his sciatica or something similar.

Anyway, this weekend is Father’s Day. Our gift to dad is an order from here:
http://www.montgomeryinn.com/onlinecatalog/combinationpacks.html
We ordered the Super Cincinatti Pack

Four full slabs of ribs, four bottles of barbecue sauce, four cans of Skyline Chili with a box of Skyline Oyster Crackers. PLUS four pints of Graeter’s Ice Cream - Black Raspberry Chip, Chocolate Chip, Chocolate MINT Chip and Vanilla.

Hope the order comes in time, should arrive Friday.

My whole family was born in Ohio, and we really wanted to give Dad a taste of ‘home’. We’ve lived here in wisconsin since I was in 2nd grade, but every time we visit Ohio, we always make sure to take some time to visit a Skyline or Cincinatti Chili. mmm coneys.

Anyway. That’s what’s going on here.

I’m having a hard time focusing today. This stress, and normal stupid girly hormonal stress. I just want to go back to bed. Last night I said, to my husband, “I’m escaping as hard as I can, and it’s just not working”.

I’ll likely swing by the hospital tonight.

Edit: The CT scan didn’t show any visible reason for his pain, so they’re going to send him to a Hospice to try to get his pain under control, and then send him home in a couple days. So, that’s where I’ll likely be tonight.
Edit2:4:30, and they’re just now transfering him out to Fitchburg. Sounds like my Aunt and Uncle are back in town, perhaps with my other uncle or my cousin joe? It’s nice to have family near.

Helm

She wore a helm to fight the darkness.Last
night was art night, somehow I forgot my markers, even though I had
planned to finish up my art trade for Mark. I had even spent a half hour
printing out my inks on copic paper.
Zelda process inprogress

So, instead I started out drawing a character from Model, and ended up
with the drawing above, completely non vampire, male, and not delicate
like what I had started with. But it was fun to do.Also, got to hear some
important studio news. :)

Hand at the level of your eyes?

Face Proportions, your hand covers your face. .

We had a fantastic presentation at Waldenbooks. More people than the last time came out to hear us talk about anatomy, bishonen, and chibis.

They all stayed and listened to us talk about a variety of proportion tricks, including the ‘your hand covers your face’ tip. ;) They were all very nice and had some good questions.

So happy too, because when I got there around 5:15, it was kinda dead, but they all came out of the woodwork just before we got started at 6:00.

Very cool.

We got to use our new table stand as well. That really seemed to help people walking by to see that yes, we were there for an event. Good stuff. It all came together, even though we had members driving in four hours to get to the talk, and had printer issues. It was a good thing I had randomly printed off our outline and some emails regarding that outline from allie, so we had a couple copies with us. whew! Maciek and Allie were fantastic, and I piped in from time to time, and took pictures.
Check out a set with both Waldenbook talks here :http://www.flickr.com/photos/metahari/sets/449213/

Afterwards people came up and checked out or wares, bought a few prints and t-shirts, and a couple zines. Great fun!

Amazing! Giant Marionette and Animatronic Elephant!

I can’t get over how cool this whole thing is: “Residents of Nantes, France woke to a space capsule crashed into a smoking pile of rubble in the central square of the city. Later that day,
a giant animatronic elephant and entourage of the Sultan paraded into town to visit the mayor.” From IDFuel via Gizmodo
